Land for Garlic

Last week I had a meeting with Vince, Vince is a sugarcane farmer in Sezela close to our new "future" Agri School. I met Vince at the House and Garden Show in Durban and what a blessing he has been. Vince is skilled farmer that managed to get his yields up with more than 100%. He got a record of over 200 Ton per Hectare. Normally farmers score about 90 ton per Hectares. For us as Chairbiz, this is the man to talk to! After all we are after big yields. Not only has Vince shown some of his insights to his success, he has also supported our idea and opted to put land available that he is "resting". This means that our future farmers can grow crop on his land without compensation! This creates big opportunities for our beneficiaries; 1. we don't have to deal with the challenges of crop rotation 2. We have a well drained soil because the roots of the sugarcane go deep so it's not compacted. 3. We out of the rural location and have less chance of theft or jealousy. 4. The soils have not been neglected by weeds and you know what they say, 1 year of weeds equals 7 years of headaches!

All in all, a recipe for success, little costs for the land. The biggest challenge ahead is now growing Garlic in warm climate, it's time to have faith like potatoes! Vince took the time to show me the piece that he is planning the rest end of November, its about 2 Hectares a excellent start I would say.
